It’s been a hot minute since I’ve sat down and talked about how my writing has been going. Before I dive into anything, I want to just give a little recap, so, here we go:
At the beginning of 2017, I began to write a story that captured my heart when I was only 14 (2009). I came up with this idea when I was very new to writing, still stuck on those online writing sites with no real idea on what I was doing. (Honestly, these sites like Mibba or Wattpad are great, they’re just not for me anymore). I liked getting word back from writing and at the time, that’s what I wrote for. I ended up falling out of love with writing for a little while because I forgot what really mattered. That I loved it.
After years of ignoring the urge to write, eventually I gave in once more and, here we are. I started writing that story with the desire to figure out those characters that I had shaped back in the day. It’s a tough story, of love, loss and defiance. It’s about learning and growing to become someone better.
This story means a lot to me and when I finally get it published, I hope it means a lot to you.
I’m currently about to dive into my fourth edit, fifth draft and it’s still a mighty hot mess. I have one of my close friends, Alex reading over it for me at the moment and hopefully she can give me some feedback for it. (It definitely needs work, I know that).
My first line is awful. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time I read it but the worst part is, I can’t seem to fix it! Every time I look at it, I can see that it needs something. Just a little tweak (or maybe a massive shift). I don’t know yet, but I’m going to figure it out.
After I tackle the scary first line, I’ll go for another read through and repeat the process of wishing I could just rip out all of my hair. Isn’t that a great idea?!
What’s my new deadline you may ask? (You probably don’t, but I don’t care). My newest deadline is to have something that I don’t cringe at whenever I read it by the end of February. Let’s hope that dream comes true!
