Five unexpected and “ill-fitting” competitors and their dragons are chosen to compete to be the next emperor/empress.
I haven’t read anything by Jessica Cluess before House of Dragons, and upon reading this one, I’m unsure to whether I will read anything else. For me this story needed more depth to the characters and the plot needed something to make it different from any other competition fantasy story. I’m not denying that this is an entertaining read, it’s just not a novel I’d read again. I gave it 3/5 stars.
Please understand that this is a personal opinion, and if you love this book and/or this author, this is not an attack. Reading (like a lot of art) is subjective.
