THE MAN IN THE WATER – David Burton (Honest Review)

Genre: Young Adult – Crime/Mystery – #loveozya
Target Audience: 12+
Rating: B+ (82%)
Goodreads Rating: 4/5

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting this author, and he’s so incredibly sweet (and so freaking funny).

This novel is set in a small mining town in Australia, that’s home to not a whole lot of people. You can imagine the surprise when 15-year-old Shaun stumbles across a body in the water. The thing is, when he gets the police, the body’s gone, and no one will believe him that what he saw was real.

It was a very enjoyable read. I know I’ve given it a four out of five on Goodreads, but I believe that’s only because I wasn’t in the mood for a thriller when I read it. If I read it again today, I think my heart would be trying to jump out of my chest with how well it’s written.

(Also, David Burton won the Text Prize! Not for this one here, but for his memoir. That should be a pretty good indicator at the brains he has swirling around in the noggin’ of his.)

I know it sounds like I’m trying to hype it up, and that’s because I am. The characters are really well written, I have zero clue to what was actually happening in the book (and not in a bad way) and the ending really satisfied me. The ending also really surprised me. I DID NOT see that coming!

It’s a really good read. I highly recommend. (Plus, we should always support #LoveOzYA readers 😉)

The break down of my rating:
Characterisation: 8/10
Style & Tone: 8/10
Enjoyment Factor: 8/10
