SORCERY OF THORNS- Margaret Rogerson (Honest Review)

Genre: Young Adult – Fantasy
Target Audience: 12+
Rating: A (92%)
Goodreads Rating: 5/5

Elisabeth is raised amongst the talking books of a magical library. There’s nothing she knows more than three very important things. The first, is that all sorcery is evil. No one that dabbles in magic is good news. The second, is that all her life she’s dedicated to becoming the best warden there is, and that means not getting involved with any form of magic except the books around her. And the third important thing is that she loves nothing more than to sit in a room and talk with the books surrounding her. This all threatens to change when she meets a curious and dark sorcerer, Nathaniel Thorn.

An extremely well written and well paced fantasy novel that’s set to sweep you off your feet. Setting off on an unexpected adventure, the plot will both surprise and delight you with how it rolls out. When one door closes, another two open. I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. The characters have me bound in an unfaltering loyalty. I wanted nothing more than for this story to go on.

I’ve read a few reviews of readers becoming bored with the story at the halfway mark, and I can’t say that I agree. I found the story to be told in a new and unique format compared to the usual way a story can be told. Instead of the plot slowly gearing up for an epic end, it has a few life altering moments throughout which I think can really throw a reader off. I, however, thoroughly enjoyed the change and the unpredictability of it all. What can I say except that I absolutely loved it and wish that there was a sequel?

(You should read it :P)

The break down of my rating:
Characterisation: 9/10
Style & Tone: 9/10
Enjoyment Factor: 10/10
